How to eliminate distractions to stay focused and maximise your potential

Interruptions and distractions are a natural part of life, whether working from home or in your office.
However, constant interruptions can disrupt your focus and productivity. And, unlike digital devices with on/off switches, humans don’t have built-in status indicators to minimise these intrusions. For a small business owner working solo, with no one to pick up the slack, the constant disruption makes it tough both to manage the business and to serve clients effectively.
But there’s a way to fix this. I can help you work without those disruptive moments.
The key is to create discipline and routine to your working day. You’ll need to approach this with resolve and a clear plan.
With my simple strategy, you’ll find success.
Here’s the second of my five top tips to help you interrupt the interruptions and bring order to your business.
Top Tip #2 in my Task-Ticking Tips series, designed to help you turn your busy-ness into your best business.
Tip #2
Set Boundaries and Communicate Availability
Decide when you’re at your most productive, no matter what time of day you work.
Schedule that time in your diary and block it out as non-negotiable.
Make it interruption free by setting your notification status to “Do not disturb”.
Let those around you know the times you’re unavailable, unless it’s urgent.
Make it clear what counts as urgent. This is important, because you get to keep your boundaries while also showing that you’re still there for others when needed. It strikes a balance between respecting people’s needs and honouring your own space to focus and get things done.
Having a distraction-free environment is essential to any smooth workflow and service delivery. You and your business need this. Without it, you'll stop being able to perform at your best.
I know it can be hard to set boundaries without coming across as harsh and tough, but I also know that it can be done with good planning, determination and kindness.
Following these five simple steps will help you regain control over unwanted disturbances and interruptions with sensitivity and tact.
One of the most common causes of interruptions for a small business owner is emails. I’ve saved my clients hundreds of hours and freed them from these types of disruptive and time-consuming routine admin tasks, such as Email Inbox Management. That’s because I take on those tasks for you, saving you the worry and the time, all while knowing that your admin is being professionally managed.
If you’d like to free up your time from admin and clear your schedule for interruption-free work that further grows your business, I’d be happy to help.
