5 Signs Your Admin Processes Are Slowing Down Your Business Growth

How to Improve Your Admin Processes to Support Your Business Growth

Are you worn down by the amount of routine admin you need to do to keep up with your business growth?
It makes sense though, because more customers means more sales, but also more business admin to manage that growth.
Eventually, it becomes hard to keep up with the essential day-to-day tasks that keep your business running. That’s because your admin processes haven’t kept pace with your business growth. What worked when you first started may no longer be working today.
So, with all the overwhelm and catching up, how do you know that your admin processes may not be working?
When I’ve worked with my clients, I’ve noticed a few common signs, and here are five that suggest your admin processes may be slowing down your business:
You spend too much time searching for information, emails or documents.
Tasks regularly fall through the cracks or get delayed.
The same admin task is completed differently each time.
You rely on memory instead of documented processes.
Your business can't run smoothly without your constant involvement.
But you don’t have to keep working this way. You can improve and streamline your admin processes by reviewing how tasks are currently carried out, identifying what’s slowing them down, and putting simple, documented processes in place.
Follow my simple 3-step guide below for a more organised way of working.
Yes, I know you’re already short on time, so you don’t need to tackle everything at once. Start with one small admin task and use my guide below to work through it as you carry out the task. It’s a short-term investment of time that will pay off for years to come.
Review your current admin processes:
For example, sending invoices. Note down each step of the process as you go along, and who carries out each step.
Identify what's slowing down your admin processes:
For example, an invoice can’t be sent until one person checks and approves each invoice. This is a potential bottleneck that can create a backlog. Look at why the bottleneck is happening and consider what you could change to remove it or make the process run more smoothly.
Put simple, documented systems in place:
Now that you’ve reviewed the process and identified ways to streamline it, update your process document (from step 1) with the improved process, creating a simple step-by-step guide, also known as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This gives you a clear process to follow each time and makes it easier for someone else to carry out the task if needed.
Your time is too valuable to let clunky, out-of-date admin processes slow you down and put you on the back foot.
Save time and regain control of your admin with better and up-to-date processes and systems.
And if you want improved processes but without doing this yourself, that’s where I come in.
